Perfil clínico e fatores associados a mortalidade hospitalar de idosos na unidade de terapia intensiva Acesso embargado Perfil clínico e fatores associados a mortalidade hospitalar de idosos na unidade de terapia intensiva(2020) Araújo, Luize StormovskiPopulation aging is a worldwide phenomenon. The study aimed to know the prevalence, the hospitalization profile and the factors associated with hospital mortality of the elderly, in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), in a hospital in greater Florianópolis, from 2017 to 2019. Analytical cross-sectional study, carried out in the ICU of a public hospital in Greater Florianópolis. The medical records of elderly patients were part of the study. Data analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, considered significance level p≤0.05, measure of Association to Prevalence Ratio (PR) with the respective 95% Confidence Intervals (95% CI). Study approved by the research ethics committee. Prevalence of hospitalization of 35.69% for the elderly and mortality of 17.5% was found. 55% were male, aged 60-74 years (64.4%), 94.3% had comorbidities. Statistically significant association was found between hospital death and reason for clinical admission (PR: 1.926; CI: 1.189–3.119; p = 0.008) length of stay greater than 5 days (PR: 2.252; CI: 1.566 - 4.073; p <0.001) , use of mechanical ventilation (PR: 4.251; CI: 2.076–8.706; p <0.001), use of vasoactive drug (PR: 3.250; CI: 1.698–6.221; p <0.001), complications after hospitalization (PR: 3.397, CI : 1.955–5.903, p <0.001) and use of sedation (PR: 4.417; CI: 2.468–7.906; p <0.001). Important prevalence of hospitalization for the elderly. Clinical hospitalization, length of stay, use of mechanical ventilation, use of tracheostomy and surgical procedure, use of vasoactive drugs and time of use, complications after hospitalization and use of sedation were associated with hospital death.
