Resumo
Introduction: Auricular acupuncture is a practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses the auricular pavilion to treat physical and emotional imbalances. Objective: to evaluate the effect of auricular acupuncture on the reduction of tobacco use in women living in a neighborhood in the city of Tubarão S / C. Methodology: descriptive study at the exploratory and intervention levels, with a qualitative-quantitative approach, in the form of a field study. It was performed in 14 female smokers aged between 20 and 60 years, living in the neighborhood of São João Margem Esquerda. Data were collected from March to May 2019. Participants were evaluated through a form with semi-structured questions and the Fagerström Test, an instrument that identified the degree of chemical dependence of each participant. After the evaluation the participants received the application of auricular acupuncture with weekly interval, totaling 8 sessions. The analyzes of the qualitative results were performed through the evaluations of the respondents' responses, according to the questionnaire and the field diary, and the analyzes of the quantitative results were done through the insertion of tables, for further analysis. Results: A reduction in cigarette consumption and even cessation of smoking was observed, as the degree of chemical dependence was not an essential factor in the reduction of consumption, since participants with the same degree of dependence obtained different results. It was found that the value of "p" was 0.009, noting a statistically significant statistic for the reduction of smoking. Conclusion: it is believed that auricular acupuncture is an effective treatment for the reduction and cessation of smoking.
