Resumo
Deaths caused by violence have a significant impact on public expenses and loss of productivity. This is an ecological time-series study using the data of 7746 individuals who were victims of fatal violence, that aims to analyze the profile and the temporal trend of violence-related mortality in Santa Catarina between 2008 and 2016.As independent variable, this study has considered the year of the occurrence, and as dependent variables, it has considered the sex, age groups, marital status, ethnicity, macro-region, the ways used to consummate death and the places of the deaths. For each series, this study calculated the average mortality rate per 100.000 in habitants, the coefficient of determination of the series by bivariate analysis (R2), the annual average variation of the values of the series (β) according to Pearson's linear regression, and the p-value of the time-event from analysis of variance (ANOVA). The majority of deaths occurred among the male sex (89% of the cases), single people (80%of the cases) and young population in the age group of 19 to 39 years old (more than 50%of the cases). The firearm (61% of the cases) and the public roads (39%of the cases), were, respectively, the most frequently way and local where the deaths due to violence most occurred and the most violent macro-regions were Florianópolis, Nordeste and Foz do Itajaí. The mortality trend from violence has increased among all age groups, such as the female sex, the single, black and brown people and in the regions of Grande Oeste, Sul, Nordeste e Serra Catarinense. This study allowed identifying priority groups for the development of violence prevention strategies that justify immediate interventions.
