Background: On March 11, 2020 it was determined by WHO, pandemic by COVID-19, since then, great challenges have been generated, especially for health professionals. Aim: To describe the role of physical therapists in the treatment of patients infected with COVID19 and how their performance can influence the reduction of hospitalization days and sequelae. Methodology: This is a literature review article. The methods used for the development of this study were based on the selection and bibliographic analysis of current journals and websites, through descriptive research using the following descriptors: Physiotherapy, treatment, COVID-19, Sars-Cov-2, recovery, health. Results: Three articles were included and analyzed that described that during hospitalization in an ICU bed, the patient usually remains bedridden. The selected studies allowed us to verify that the reports in the literature about Sars-CoV-2 caused or not by the new coronavirus indicate that the vast majority of patients considerably need to receive physical therapy interventions for the prevention and recovery of acquired sequelae that may remain for the short, medium and long term. Conclusion: It is notorious that the physiotherapist is a key professional on the front line in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic in ICU beds, also highlighting their performance at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels in health.
