Caracteriza-se pela ocorrência espontânea e recorrente de episódios breves ou prolongados de atividade neuronal excessiva, devido a um estado de hiperexcitabilidade neuronal e hipersincronia. A epilepsia pode ter origem estrutural genética, infecciosa, metabólica, imunológica ou desconhecida, embora as crises possam ser multifatoriais. Para esta revisão integrativa da literatura foram coletadas informações através de levantamentos bibliográficos nas bases de dados da Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval Sistem online (Medline), Google Acadêmico, revistas e jornais online sobre medicina. Como resultados baseados nas pesquisas feitas, o uso do Canabidiol (CBD) tem grande potencial para o tratamento da epilepsia com baixos níveis de efeitos colaterais onde os mesmo quando se apresentava não eram agravantes como, com o uso do tratamento convencional. O presente trabalho tem por objetivo expor pesquisas sobre o uso do canabidiol no tratamento da epilepsia, indicação, contraindicação, seu mecanismo de ação e demonstrar resultados realizados sobre a utilização de tal.The present work aims to present research on the use of cannabidiol in the treatment of epilepsy, indication, contraindication and its mechanism of action and demonstrate results on the use of such. Epilepsy is one of the main neurological diseases that affect young adults in the world. It is characterized by the spontaneous and recurrent occurrence of brief or prolonged episodes of excessive neuronal activity, due to a state of neuronal hyperexcitability and hypersynchrony. Epilepsy can have genetic, infectious, metabolic, immunological or unknown structural origins, although the seizures can be multifactorial. Information was collected through bibliographic surveys in databases in the following databases Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval Sistem online (Medline), Google Scholar and some websites where doctors provided information about its studies.
