The objective of this work is to Present through a literature review, a greater knowledge about overdenture and its retention systems, showing its advantages and disadvantages and its characteristics. It is concluded that overdentures are a form of effective treatment, bringing benefits to the patient, and that their retention systems function correctly when well indicated.A reabilitação oral em pacientes desdentados ou parcialmente desdentados, é um tratamento muito complexo, onde demanda muito cuidado e critérios a serem avaliados pelo cirurgião dentista. Além da prótese convencional, há a possibilidade da utilização de dentaduras fixas ou removíveis, suportadas por implantes. Nesse sentido, apresenta-se as próteses tipo overdenture, que podem ser projetadas com uma combinação implanto-retida e suportada por tecidos moles. O presente trabalho tem por objetivo apresentar, por meio de uma revisão de literatura, um maior conhecimento sobre overdenture e seus sistemas de retenção, mostrando suas vantagens, desvantagens, bem como suas características.
