As DTMs abrangem uma gama de alterações clínicas articulares e musculares, e são consideradas um problema de saúde pública que afeta parte da população brasileira. Essas alterações podem influenciar significativamente a saúde dos indivíduos, o bem-estar e qualidade de vida dos mesmos. Por este motivo, em alguns casos, é necessário realizar o tratamento, diminuindo a dor e reestabelecendo função. Atualmente, há diferentes técnicas para o tratamento da DTM, desde técnicas mais conservadoras a tratamentos cirúrgicos e, durante a evolução desses tratamentos, foi desenvolvida a técnica da artrocentese de ATM e a técnica da artroscopia de ATM. Esses dois procedimentos são cirúrgicos e minimamente invasivos, possuem vantagens e desvantagens que devem ser analisadas e são empregados em diferentes situações, cabendo, então, ao profissional, conhecer as técnicas e as suas aplicações.The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex joint of the human body that allows rotational and translational movements, but because it needs to accommodate occlusal, muscular and cervical adaptations it is subject to temporomandibular disorders (TMD). TMD covers a range of joint and muscular clinical changes and is considered a public health problem that affects part of the Brazilian population. These changes can significantly influence the health of individuals, their well-being and quality of life. For this reason, in some cases, it is necessary to carry out the treatment, reducing pain and reestablishing function. Currently, there are different techniques for the treatment of TMD, from more conservative techniques to surgical treatments and, during the evolution of these treatments, the TMJ arthrocentesis technique and the TMJ arthroscopy technique were developed.
