Objective: To analyze the cognitive function influence on balance of the elderly. Methods: A total group of 89 elderly individuals, 23.5% male and 76.4% female, aged over 60 years, were assessed balance changes by means of stabilometry with body pressure center CoP analysis (CoP parameters: 1) Length expressed in mm, 2) area in mm2, 3) sway A/P and L/L (Width in mm, mean deviation in mm, and velocity in mm/s). A Medcapture pressure platform was used for this purpose. The individuals were evaluated in two situations: open eyes and closed eyes. Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was used to assess cognitive status. Results: It was observed that when the elderly close their eyes they present a higher oscillation of CoP showing a higher orthostatic imbalance. We found a significant and independent indirect association between MoCa and Sway with AP with eyes open and between MoCa and Sway velocity AP with eyes closed. Conclusion: By analyzing the found results, it can be observed that the stabilometry parameters showed alterations on cognitive function of the analyzed elderly, suggesting that stabilometric analysis could be a cognitive function predictor.
