For this reason, the consequences and the main effects on workers life and health that are exposed to these rays must be analysed and discussed, as well as preventive measures, rules that regulate this type of work, the main protection equipment and other measures that may prevent any kind of disease or harm to the workers. In this way, this work raises the main aspects of radiation, its characteristics and types, highlighting the ultraviolet rays, mentioning its general aspects in the world and in Brazil and its sources of propagation. Another highlighted item are the diseases originated by the chronic exposition to the ultraviolet rays, from those that manifest on the skin to those manifested on the worker’s eyes. Currently, the regulative rules of the Ministry of Labour and Employment don’t include anything that regulate the limits of tolerance or exposure time to ultraviolet rays, which implies in several negative aspects to the workers, for example, the non-granting concession of the collaborator’s insalubrity additional rights. In this way it is evidenced the urgent need of a critical and watchful look over all the aspects regarding this subject, having the necessity of rules modification and parameters legalization to impose limits to this exposure and the companies’ larger concern and attention with their employees’ health.A exposição aos raios ultravioletas pelos trabalhadores que exercem suas atividades laborais a céu aberto é inevitável, porém por diversas vezes negligenciada pelos empregadores e pelos órgãos governamentais e fiscalizadores. Por esse motivo devem ser analisadas e discutidas suas consequências e principais efeitos na vida e saúde dos trabalhadores que ficam expostos a esses raios, como também as medidas de prevenção, as normas que regularizam esse tipo de trabalho, os principais equipamentos de proteção e demais medidas que possam vir a prevenir qualquer doença ou danos prejudiciais aos trabalhadores. Desta forma, este trabalho levanta os principais aspectos sobre radiação, suas características e tipos, dando destaque aos raios ultravioletas, mencionando seus aspectos gerais no mundo e no Brasil e suas fontes de propagação. Outro item destacado são as doenças advindas da exposição crônica aos raios ultravioletas, desde as que se manifestam na pele como as que se manifestam nos olhos dos trabalhadores. Atualmente as normas regulamentadoras do Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego não possuem nada que regulamente os limites de tolerância ou ao tempo de exposição aos raios ultravioletas, isso implica em vários aspectos negativos aos trabalhadores, como por exemplo, a não concessão do direito do adicional de insalubridade ao colaborador.
