Constitui-se em uma pesquisa qualitativa com estudo de caso sobre a complexidade das situações vividas por uma mãe primigesta em um nascimento prematuro. Foi utilizada uma entrevista semiestruturada de elaboração própria, obtendo informações que corroboram com o estudo do fenômeno. A entrevista foi gravada e transcrita trazendo à tona reflexões acerca dos impactos traumáticos do nascimento prematuro na saúde mental da mãe. Assim, ressalta-se a importância de um ambiente facilitador para o vínculo mãe e bebê para a colaboração da saúde mental da mãe no momento de parto prematuro.This work aimed to analyze, through the bias of psychoanalysis, how mother-baby contact helps the mother's mental health while the newborn is under the care of a neonatal ICU. It consists of qualitative research with a case study on the complexity of the situations experienced by a first-time mother in a premature birth. A self-designed semi-structured interview was used, obtaining information that corroborates the study of the phenomenon. The interview was recorded and transcribed, bringing to light reflections on the traumatic impacts of premature birth on the mother's mental health.
