A legislação, em particular a Lei de Execução Penal nº 7.210/1984, introduziu o instituto da remição de pena, que permite a redução da pena por meio do trabalho e do estudo, desde que observadas as aptidões do apenado e o princípio constitucional da individualização da pena. Este beneficio desempenha um papel crucial na ressocialização dos condenados, contribuindo para evitar a reincidência. No entanto, o sistema prisional e judiciário ainda. precisam incentivar de forma mais eficaz as atividades laborais e educacionais durante o cumprimento da pena, visando não apenas o benefício do apenado, mas também a ressocialização e reintegração desses indivíduos à sociedade.The present work aims to analyze the current situation of the Brazilian prison system and the fulfillment of sentences, focusing on the effectiveness of sentence remission and other public policies available in the Brazilian Penitentiary System. The legislation, mainly Law No. 7,210/1984, introduced the institute of sentence remission, allowing for a reduction in the sentence through work and studies if the inmate's abilities and the constitutional principle of sentence individualization are noted. This benefit plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation of convicts, contributing to preventing recidivism.
