A study search was conducted using three databases: PubMed, SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs). The following descriptors were used in the search key: "Gingival recession" AND "Phenotype". It was also used to compose a search key by keyword: OR “periodontal biotype”. Afterwards, inclusion and exclusion requirements were selected, totaling 6 analyzed articles. The selected studies used thin PB and thick PB as classification and some even included intermediate PB. Later, he correlated his presence with the prevalence of gingival recession between the categories. Most studies use the probe transparency method to determine the periodontal biotype and measurement in tests to determine the presence or length of the recession. This integrative review showed that the periodontal biotype is a risk factor for the development of gingival recession.O objetivo deste estudo foi, através de uma revisão integrativa, mostrar se o biótipo periodontal (BP) apresenta influência no desenvolvimento de recessão gengival nos indivíduos. A busca dos estudos foi realizada utilizando três bases de dados: PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) e Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (Lilacs). Foram utilizados, na chave de busca, os seguintes descritores: “Gingival recession” AND “Phenotype”. Também foi utilizada para compor a chave de busca a palavra-chave: OR “periodontal biotype”. Após, foram aplicados os critérios de inclusão e exclusão, levando a um total de 6 artigos analisados. Os estudos selecionados utilizaram como classificação BP fino e BP espesso e alguns ainda incluíram BP intermediário. Posteriormente, correlacionaram a sua presença com a prevalência de recessão gengival entre as classificações. A maioria dos estudos utilizou o método da transparência da sonda para determinar o biótipo periodontal e a mensuração em milímetros para determinar a presença ou comprimento da recessão.
