Com enfoque nos Investimentos Estrangeiros Diretos e nos projetos de infraestrutura patrocinados pela China, o que se propõe é a averiguação da hipótese de que a região analisada tem importância fundamental para a manutenção dos interesses geoeconômicos chineses. Para averiguar a hipótese, procura-se compreender de que maneira a Iniciativa acomoda os interesses de ambas as partes em seu escopo de atuação, leva-se em consideração a formação histórica da conjuntura analisada, pautada por uma China que se destaca internacionalmente como a maior economia da Ásia, e pelos países da ASEAN, membros de um bloco econômico reconhecido pelo sucesso de seu processo de integração regional. Neste sentido, este trabalho se propões a desbravar a maneira como a China compreende seu papel enquanto potência regional e mundial, uma vez que a dicotomia face aos Estados Unidos passou a se intensificar a partir de 2017. Para tanto, a abordagem escolhida se pauta por uma metodologia mista, alinhando as informações contidas na bibliografia à análise de dados provenientes de fontes secundárias para comprovar que as vulnerabilidades da economia chinesa são um fator preponderante na promoção da BRI, tendo como principal interesse a garantia de canais de suprimento de matérias primas e recursos energéticos destinados à indústria chinesa, ao passo em que se propõe a mitigar os déficits infraestruturais dos países em que investe como forma de garantir seus próprios interesses de segurança econômica por meio de estratégias geoeconômicas.The theme of this work leans over to study the developments of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in the Southeast Asia region. With emphasis on Foreign Direct Investments and infrastructure projects sponsored by China, what is proposed is to be investigated is the possibility that the region proves to be of fundamental importance for the maintenance of Chinese geo-economic interests. To ascertain the situation and try to understand how the Initiative accommodates the interests of both parties in its scope of action, the historical formation is considered to analyze the situation in question, guided by a China that stands out internationally as the largest economy in Asia, and the ASEAN countries, members of an economic bloc recognized for the success of its regional integration process. In this sense, this work intends to explore the way in which China understands its role as a regional and global power, since the dichotomy vis-à-vis the United States began to intensify from 2017 onwards.
