The study points out a certain precariousness of working conditions. It also indicates that despite the precarious working conditions, the subjects surveyed envisage the possibility of better working conditions. They understand that working in unfavorable conditions is incompatible with having a quality education.O presente estudo apresenta uma caracterização do trabalho docente na Educação Infantil das escolas públicas dos bairros Passagem e Recife da cidade de Tubarão/SC; e especificamente, o perfil sociocultural e econômico dos professores e a percepção que os professores têm sobre o seu trabalho. O estudo aponta certa precarização das condições de trabalho. Indica, também, que apesar das precárias condições de trabalho, os sujeitos pesquisados vislumbram a possiblidade de melhores condições de trabalho.
