A retrospective cross-sectional collection was carried out, with data of 82.811 liveborn infants registered in the National Information System on Live Births in Brazil (SINASC) between January 1st and December 31st. Newborns of women 20 years of age and over, residents of Santa Catarina were included.The significance level of p≤0.05 and the measure of association Prevalence Ratio (PR) with respective 95% Confidence Intervals(95% CI) were considered. It is concluded that the maternal age ≥ 35 years represents the lowest percentage of the studied population . A statistically significant difference is found among advanced maternal age and unfavorable perinatal outcomes (prematurity, low birth weight and Apgar score lower that seven at five minutes).O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a prevalência e a associação da idade materna avançada com os desfechos perinatais no Estado de Santa Catarina no ano de 2016. Foi realizada uma coleta retrospectiva transversal, com dados de 82.811 nascidos vivos registrados no Sistema de Informações sobre Nascidos Vivos (SINASC) entre 01 de janeiro e 31 de dezembro de 2016. Foram incluídos recém-nascidos de mulheres residentes em Santa Catarina, com idade igual ou superior a 20 anos. Considerou-se o nível de significância de p≤0,05 e medida de Associação Razão de Prevalência (RP) com os respectivos Intervalos de Confiança 95% (IC95%). Conclui-se que a idade materna ≥ 35 anos representa menor porcentagem da população estudada.
