The study presents the main aspects of the General Statute of Municipal Guards (Law 13.022 of 2014), together with the Disarmament Statute (Law 10.826 of 2003), addressing the requirements for the possession of firearms, the prerogatives and function of Municipal Guards . The method used in the present study was the qualitative one, regarding the level of research, the exploratory one, and finally, regarding the procedure, the bibliographic methods were used. From the study, it is concluded that it is possible that the Municipal Guards use firearms as long as it is revised the concepts provided by law made by the legislator which would promote a significant increase in the performance of the Municipal Guards and combat violence and disorder.Esta monografia tem como tema a Guarda Municipal e, como objetivo principal, analisar a possibilidade do uso de armas de fogo pelos Guardas Municipais, observando o interesse público e visando a sua segurança, examinando as doutrinas e o ordenamento jurídico. O estudo apresenta os principais aspectos do Estatuto Geral das Guardas Municipais (Lei 13.022 de2014), em conjunto com o Estatuto do Desarmamento (Lei 10.826 de 2003), abordando os requisitos para o porte de armas de fogo, as prerrogativas e função dos Guardas Municipais. O método utilizado no presente trabalho, quanto à abordagem, foi o qualitativo, quanto ao nível de pesquisa, foi o exploratório e, por fim, quanto ao procedimento, utilizou-se os métodos bibliográficos.
