Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Prevalência de violência em acadêmicos de uma Universidade no Sul de Santa Catarina(2020) Cardoso, Amanda da Rosa; Mohr, Ana CarolineIntroduction: Violence was defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as "the use of physical force or power, in threat or in practice, against oneself, another person, group or community, which results or may result in suffering, death, psychological damage, impaired development or deprivation". Therefore, it is considered a serious public health problem. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of violence among law, nursing and medical students at a University in southern Santa Catarina. Methods: Cross-sectional epidemiological study conducted through a census with academics from law, nursing and medicine courses. Results: The prevalence of violence in the academic field was 34.5%, in which 28.4% of the victims were men and 71.6% were women. Psychological/moral violence was the most prevalent, with educational institutions being the second place with the highest occurrence of violence and the age group from 11 to 20 years the most affected. Conclusion: Given the impact that violence has on the health field, the study contributes to the progressive understanding of the problem. The relevance of investigating and further discussing the theme is emphasized, thus suggesting further studies in search of preventive action, early detection of the phenomenon and development of professional strategies and training for adequate care to victims.
