Artigo Científico Acesso embargado Avaliação da independência funcional e força muscular de idosos praticantes de atividade física(2020) Hoegenn, IngridThe present study aimed to assess the functional independence and muscle strength of elderly people who practice physical activity and its decrease as age advances. A comparative analytical quantitative observational study was carried out. The sample consisted of 105 elderly people, 81 women and 24 men practitioners physical activity and enrolled at the Centro de Atenção a Terceira Idade (CATI), aged over 60 years. For the strength analysis of the lower limbs, the sit and stand test (SeL), of the Senior Fitness Test-SFT battery, was performed. For the assessment of functional independence, the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test was used. The SeL demonstrated that 39% (n = 41) of the elderly evaluated were classified as very weak and 35.2% (n = 37) as Weak and only 1.9% (n = 2) was classified as very good. In TUG, 79% (n = 83) of the elderly had Preserved Functional Independence, while only 1.9% (n = 2) of those evaluated had Compromised Functional Independence. Thus, it is considered that the practice of physical activity can be a factor that promotes beneficial effects to the aging process and in the prevention of risk factors for falls.
