Artigo Científico Acesso embargado História, memória e identidade na Guerra de Canudos: o interdiscurso nos posicionamentos do Exército Brasileiro e da Folha de São Paulo(2018) Motta, Rodrigo GuimarãesWithin and outside the academic field, the Canudos War continues to arouse not only a large number of publications, but also different readings through different discursive practices, culminating diverse discursive positions and, thus, constructing distinct memories about a same historical event. Given that the discourses are built within a space of regularities in which they are mutually delimited, this study aimed to analyze to what extent the discourse published by Folha de S. Paulo newspaper about the Canudos War on the occasion of its centenary and of the centenary of the death of Counselor would reproduce, validate and / or refute the official version of the Brazilian Army, thereby deriving the position of Folha in this regard. For this, the research was based on concepts derived from Military History (history, memory and identity) and the French Discourse Analysis (interdiscourse and positioning), which were also applied as methodological resources to a corpus of three publications. Through the analyzes, it was verified that Folha's position on this event is directly opposed to that of the Army and that, by putting into circulation a positive image of the figure of Counselor and his followers, condemning the suppression of the population of Canudos - herefore, of military intervention as it has occurred - the newspaper encourages (re) construction of a memory absolutely contrary to that conveyed by the official version of the military, validating it, even historically.
