Estudo de Caso Acesso aberto Novo modelo de gerenciamento de resíduos sólidos para aeroportos lixo zero: estudo de caso Floripa Airport(2019) Schmidt, Brunno HenrikeThe problem of solid waste is an alarming issue in the world, in the environmental, social, political and economic sphere. Airports are characterized by a large flow of passengers and loads (national and international), generating a large amount of solid waste, which in turn can spread diseases and exotic agricultural products. Good solid waste management practices and minimization of solid waste generated, such as the Zero Waste culture, are essential for preserving environment, health and natural resources. The present research aims to raise the differentials of the application of the Zero Waste concept in solid waste management, as well as to present the guidelines of the Zero Waste concept, to raise the characteristics of solid waste management and to analyze the indicators of solid waste management of the International Airport Hercílio Luz - Floripa Airport, through a case study, technical visit, survey of concepts, legislation and current standards. It was evidenced in practice the mechanisms used to practice the Zero Waste culture. Characteristics of solid waste management were raised, and then the environmental indicators related to solid waste management were analyzed, together with the practices of the Zero Waste culture. The results observed in the practices of the Zero Waste culture were the actions of rethinking, reducing, reusing, segregating, recycling, composting and co-processing. The characteristics of solid waste management range from the generation, segregation, classification, packaging, transportation, treatment and final disposal of the different types of solid waste generated at the airport. It was possible to observe the improvement of the landfill diversion, diagnosing the efficiency of the mechanisms adopted after the implementation of the operation of the new solid waste management model associated with the Zero Waste culture, by the analysis of the environmental indicators. It is concluded that the adopted mechanisms of Zero Waste culture associated with solid waste management are reducing the generation of solid waste and reducing the disposal to landfills. As evidenced in the environmental indicator of landfill diversion that went from 8% at the beginning of the operation, to more than 60% in the last month analyzed. Making these practices essential for sustainable development, preserving the environment, the public health of all society and stimulating the circular economy.
