podendo estar associado a fatores genéticos, psicológicos, estresse,
transtornos neurológicos, má oclusão ou a combinação destes fatores. O
bruxismo.
Bruxism can be defined as an involuntary and repetitive activity of the masticatory system, which leads the patient to grind or clench the teeth during the waking period or during sleep. There is no definite cause, and it may be associated with genetic, psychological, stress, neurological disorders, malocclusion or a combination of these factors. This study aimed to review the scientific literature on the importance of early diagnosis in the treatment of bruxism. For this, a bibliographical survey was carried out in advanced sites such as SciELO, LILACS, BVS and PubMed, as well as in other search tools, such as Google Scholar. It was verified that bruxism has no cure and its treatment is not standardized, as it requires an individualized clinical evaluation. With early diagnosis, through detailed anamnesis, clinical observation and complementary exams, it is possible to offer the patient greater control over the pathology, which can significantly reduce or even eliminate some symptoms, such as: wear of dental structures, cracks and breaks, jaw displacement, headache, sensitivity, joint and/or muscle pain, among others. Thus, it was concluded that early diagnosis and treatment are essential to control and reduce the damage caused by bruxism, providing relief from symptoms and gains in quality of life for the patient.
