Resumo
The aging process is something natural to the skin and given the growing trend of the elderly
population and the search for beauty, the prevention of skin aging, one of the actives, Vitamin
C is considered one of the most important and essential ingredients in products for the skin. The
objective of the work is to demonstrate the use of Vitamin C in the prevention and treatment of
changes resulting from skin aging, describing the benefits of Vitamin C for the skin, through a
literature review in the databases: Scielo, Pubmed and Academic Google . The formulations
with Vitamin C must use it in its synthesized form, because in its pure form it oxidizes and,
consequently, there is no absorption by the skin. Vitamin C has antioxidant activity,
depigmenting, photo-rejuvenating, reducing signs of photoaging, acts to fight wrinkles and
improves skin texture. It is one of the skin's most powerful antioxidants and due to its
antioxidant, neo collagen and skin lightening properties. Its application for anti-aging is due to
its action in increasing collagen synthesis, stabilizing collagen fibers and decreasing collagen
degradation. The use of Vitamin C is beneficial to the skin, as it is one of the few actives that
allows to improve the changes resulting from aging, promoting beauty and well-being.
