Introduction: Alzheimer's disease is the name given to a neurodegenerative pathology of a chronic and progressive nature that affects the elderly over 60 years, causing behavioral changes and difficulty in learning and memory, justified by the accumulation of senile plaques and brain atrophy that leads to cognitive decline and consequent loss of autonomy of patients. Therefore, physical therapy has been an intervention of paramount importance in the treatment and prevention of damage caused by AD. Objectives: To clarify the benefits of physical therapy and the application of therapeutic exercises in motor and cognitive dysfunctions in Alzheimer's patients. Methodology: The present study is a literature review based on the search made in SciELO, Lilacs, BVS, PubMed and PEDro databases, using the descriptors "physiotherapy", "motor disorders", "exercise therapeutic", "cognitive" and "Alzheimer's" as well as their correspondents in Portuguese and Spanish and studies that lacked detailed methodology and contained inconsistent data in the results were excluded. Results: 365 articles were found on the subject in question, but only 8 were selected, following the exclusion and inclusion criteria. From the selected studies it was possible to affirm that physical therapy intervention has a positive effect on motor and cognitive dysfunctions in patients with AD. Conclusion: The selected studies suggest that Physical Therapy is beneficial to postpone and improve the quality of life of Alzheimer's patients, however, more searches are needed to expand and elaborate therapeutic protocols that contribute to the treatment of the disease according to the specificity of each patient.
