The present work aims to investigate the influence of the pandemic and post-pandemic context on current outbreaks of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD). This is a systematic review of the literature. The search was conducted by two researchers independently, selecting publications of the last 3 years in English and Portuguese, through Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) database. The epidemiological data is lacking, because the notification is not compulsory. In despide of this, it was possible identify that the restrictions present during the pandemic period were determining factors in the reduction of HFMD cases. Also, it was observed a gradual increase when the restrictions were relaxed. The non pharmaceutical interventions used during the COVID-19 pandemic may be highly effective in controlling HFMD infections. It is necessary to encourage health education to parentes, guardians and caregives. They should know the main characteristics of HFMD h and understand hygiene practices as an essential fator in containing HFMD.
