Syphilis has been studied and treated since the 15th century, and despite advances in health, it is still a public health concern, being one of the fastest-growing Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in the last decade. Congenital syphilis is an infection that occurs via the placenta in untreated or inade quately treated pregnant women. It is essential to use a condom when having sexual contact, but in the case of congenital syphilis, the way to prevent infection of the fetus is through the early diagnosis and treatment of the pregnant woman, with prenatal monitoring throughout the pregnancy being extremely important. The objective is to clarify the etiological agent, its resourcefulness in placental trans mission, and the consequences of the disease for the mother and fetus, as well as to analyze the factors that imply the growth of the incidence of the disease among pregnant women or not
