The elderly population has been growing exorbitantly over the years, and this number is expected to increase only in the coming decades. The aging process is progressive and can lead to numerous pathologies and weaknesses in the body of the individual, such as weakening of the musculature, lack of balance, loss of bone mass, and changes in body systems, which are the main risk factors for the event of falls. As a result, the physiotherapist plays a crucial role in preventing these falls, through the most diverse resources available in the area. This study aims to identify and describe the main physiotherapeutic resources used to improve the functionality of the elderly, working postural control and thus reducing the risk of falls. The same was accomplished through a bibliographic survey of scientific matters in the Databases SciELO (Scientific Electronic library online) Lilacs and Sciencedirect, between August 20, 2022 and September 26, 2022. After the analysis, 8 articles were selected based on the themes: physiotherapeutic resources used to optimize the functionality of the elderly, improve postural control and reduce the risk of falls. It was possible to identify the following resources: Pilates, aquatic physiotherapy, specific technologies and conventional physiotherapy exercises. It was possible to conclude that the physical therapy resources evidenced were effective in preventing falls in the elderly, as they significantly improved motor skills, postural control, balance and gait speed, thus reducing the risk of falls and consequently promoting a better quality of life for the elderly.
