Resumo
Crescente é a preocupação com a gestão dos resíduos sólidos urbanos (lixo), no que se refere a sua geração até a disposição final. Assim, o desafio da atualidade é fazer com que o gerador se preocupe em dar o destino adequado ao resíduo por ele produzido. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de diagnosticar as condições de manejo dos resíduos sólidos na Unidade Pedra Branca do campus da Grande Florianópolis da Unisul, tendo em vista subsidiar a elaboração futura de um Plano de Gerenciamento de Resíduos Sólidos (PGRS). A efetivação da pesquisa foi dada através de análise documental, observação da forma como os resíduos sólidos vêm sendo manejados na universidade e no município, da caracterização dos resíduos sólidos gerados, numa área piloto, e da coleta de dados sobre a percepção ambiental sobre tal problemática pela comunidade acadêmica. Com base na análise e interpretação dos dados levantados, detectou-se que a Unidade não apresenta um Plano de Gerenciamento de Resíduos, nem coleta seletiva e que existem diferentes grupos responsáveis pelo gerenciamento dos resíduos gerados dentro do espaço em que a Unidade está instalada. Constatou-se que a maioria dos resíduos gerados sob responsabilidade da Universidade são da classe II. Na segregação do material durante a caracterização dos resíduos identificou-se que a maioria dos resíduos gerados são contaminados por resíduos orgânicos. Dentre os resíduos segregados na caracterização a maioria é papel e plástico. Verificou-se que existe uma diferenciação com relação ao entendimento da problemática dos resíduos na Unidade pelos dois grupos entrevistados, alunos e funcionários, mas que estes estão dispostos a contribuir com a melhoria do processo. Constatou-se que no município não existe um plano de gestão e que não existe, ainda, nenhuma inciativa concreta para a implantação da coleta seletiva, somente iniciativas isoladas como os pontos de entrega voluntária (PEV) no bairro Cidade Universitária Pedra Branca, onde a Universidade está localizada. Além do que, a maioria da população de catadores trabalha de maneira inadequada e informal devido à falta de estrutura, necessitando intervenções nesta área. Por fim, o presente trabalho permitiu analisar a situação atual do gerenciamento dos resíduos na Unidade, evidenciando a necessidade de implantação de um PGRS
