Music therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses music in a complementary way to treat and rehabilitate individuals, aiming to improve psychological, cognitive, physical, and social aspects. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), on the other hand, is an approach to psychology recognized for having great scientific backing and for being effective in treating various psychopathologies. CBT focuses on identifying and modifying dysfunctional patterns of thought and behavior. This study sought to investigate the effectiveness of treatments thatcombined music therapy with cognitive-behavioral therapy in a wide variety of clinical conditions, covering different populations of various nationalities and age groups. The in-depth analysis of eight selected studies revealed favorable results when adopting this therapeutic combination. With a view to contributing to psychotherapeutic practice, this study aimed to draw up an integrative review of articles on the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy together with music therapy for various mental health conditions. Searches were carried out in the databases PUBMED, SciELO and PepSIC. The results indicated that music therapy, when integrated with CBT, promoted greater patient engagement and significant improvements in their mental health conditions, indicating therapeutic potential in different clinical contexts. However, the final considerations emphasize the need for further research with larger samples and long-term follow-up to confirm the effectiveness of the combination and establish music therapy as an evidence-based complementary practice.
