The Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) plays a crucial role in everyday activities such as speaking and chewing. Changes in its structure can result in Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD), complex conditions that affect muscles, TMJ and bones, presenting symptoms such as orofacial pain and limitations in mouth opening. With specific subtypes, such as muscular, joint and mixed TMD, the diagnostic approach demands different attention. Botulinum Toxin (TB), derived from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, stands out in the treatment of conditions such as bruxism, providing muscle relaxation and pain relief. Despite being effective, TB has contraindications and side effects, which are generally mild and temporary. Occlusal splints, effective in optimizing masticatory function, reduce abnormal muscle activity and stabilize the TMJ, providing benefits such as the absence of pain in the joint and muscle region. It is important to highlight that these plates should not be the only form of treatment, being complementary to other approaches. Personalized manufacturing, considering the etiology, and the patient's active collaboration are crucial to optimizing treatment results.
