Resumo
"Guia Prático sobre Hall Technique" teve como seu principal objetivo fazer uma revisão de literatura sobre o tema, com foco em apresentar o que é a técnica e como coloca-lá em prática no dia a dia clínico da odontopediatria. Bem como suas principais vantagens e limitações.
Introduction: Caries is a complex, multifactorial and behavioral disease that demineralizes dental tissues, which can cause extensive coronary destruction or early loss of deciduous teeth. The Hall Technique (HT) was created as a restorative treatment method for difficult-to-manage patients and is used to seal caries in deciduous molars. Objectives: The objective of this work was to carry out a literature review on HT and present a practical guide on the subject. Methodology: Searches were carried out in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Literature Review: The Hall Technique uses prefabricated metal crowns cemented with glass ionomer on decayed primary molars, preventing the progression of caries. HT is a good option for non-cooperative patients, as it does not use instruments that generate fear and discomfort, such as cartridges or rotation pens. The average chair time for HT is shorter compared to other conventional treatments for carious lesions and it is effective in non-clinical settings and in places with few resources. HT has reports of discomfort and the increase in vertical dimension of occlusion (VOD) is considered a disadvantage, however the technique was considered safe in a dental environment during the COVID-19 pandemic because it does not generate aerosols, thus avoiding cross-spreading of the virus. So far, studies report that HT has clinical success and longevity. HT is also effective when associated with silver diamine fluoride (SDF) and diode laser. Final considerations: HT shows positive numbers that demonstrate clinical success. However, it is still a relatively new and under development treatment that has scarce numbers of studies and publications.
