Antiretroviral therapy has radically changed the mortality rate in HIV-positive patients, but it contributes to the emergence of other complications. HIV-associated lipodystrophic syndrome has been associated with the adverse effects of antiretroviral therapy. Lipodystrophy encompasses changes in the distribution of body and facial fat, whether or not followed by metabolic disorders. As the face is one of the areas affected by lipodystrophy, volumetric corrections were necessary to distance itself from the stigma of AIDS. The use of fillers for volumetric corrections has proven to be extremely efficient and safe, being approved and recommended by Brazilian (ANVISA) and North American (FDA) regulatory bodies for the treatment of this syndrome. This narrative review of the literature addresses the use of biostimulators and also PMMA, which is the only nonbiodegradable product in this article. The development of the present study made it possible to analyze the different types of fillers linked to the treatment of lipodystrophy associated with HIV in several articles. The study demonstrated that all fillers mentioned here were effective and safe for the treatment of lipodystrophy
