Laryngeal hemiplegia in horses is a respiratory disorder that has aroused the interest of veterinary medicine due to its prevalence and significant impact on the animal's exercise capacity, as well as its limitations. The condition is characterized by paresis of one or both vocal cords, resulting in airway obstruction and difficulty breathing during exercise. There are different options available to diagnose and treat laryngeal hemiplegia in horses. The exact cause of this neuropathy is not yet completely understood, but the left recurrent laryngeal nerve is most commonly affected, resulting in a paresis of the left arytenoid cartilage and vocal cords. This work aims to contribute to a better understanding of laryngeal hemiplegia in horses in the veterinary environment, and consequently, improve the quality of life and performance of animals affected by this pathology.
