The aim of this paper is to analyze the period of stability experienced during the Cold War (1947-1991), based on Kenneth Waltz's neorealist theoretical current and qualitative research into theses, books and authors on the main events that marked this period, and why it can be understood as a period of relative peace in the international system. In order to understand the bipolar system, so called in International Relations, and the battle between the two great world powers of the time (the United States and Russia), neo-realism is used. This was the dominant theory from its inception until the end of the Cold War, and develops a study of the international system with a focus on the state and its survival, analyzing the behavior of countries in times of peace and also in times of crisis.
