The number of cases and diagnoses of mental disorders has increased considerably in the world population in the last decades, consequently several medical methods and treatments have emerged to deal with this type of situation. Among these methods is the use of psychotropic drugs, which are drugs capable of altering the chemistry in our central nervous system and modify mood or behavior. This course completion work, of exploratory-descriptive character, is a bibliographic review, with the objective of showing the importance of patient safety when undergoing these pharmacotherapeutic treatments, as well as the impact of the monitoring of a multidisciplinary team for this patient and to identify the irrational use of these drugs in the Brazilian population. The review was carried out in Scielo, Medline, Micromedex and BVS, selecting papers in Portuguese, English and Spanish. As a result it was possible to observe that several errors are recorded in the diagnosis and control of the distribution of psychotropic drugs. These errors can impact the patient's life in many ways, including causing dependence. Thus, it is necessary the performance of a multidisciplinary team prepared and specialized to make the correct diagnosis and pharmacological control, thus ensuring a better quality of life for the patient.
