INTRODUCTION: Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is a reflection of the physiological factors that modulate the heart rhythm, being a reliable, reproducible and non-invasive method to quantitatively evaluate the activity and interaction between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Depending on its variation, it may be related to certain diseases, emotional conditions and stressful situations. OBJECTIVE: To analyze HRV in hypertensive patients and its relationship with lifestyle. METHODS: Cross-sectional study, with convenience sampling from a private cardiology clinic in Santa Catarina. Patients over 18 years of age who attended appointments with a diagnosis of hypertension for more than 6 months were included. Sociodemographic (age, sex), anthropometric (weight and height) and clinical (presence of comorbidities) information was collected. To analyze lifestyle, the "Fantastic Lifestyle" questionnaire was used and to measure HRV, a Cardio frequency meter (Atrio Cardiac Belt - BI157) was used. RESULTS: 83 participants were analyzed, with a median (p25-p75) age of 66 years old (55-74) and the majority were female (59.9%). Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) was present in 37.3% of participants and there was a change in HRV in the variables RMSSD and RRTri. Patients with Diabetes Mellitus had higher Heart Rate at rest. CONCLUSION: The patients evaluated have an HRV within normal parameters, however, a lower HRV was observed in patients diagnosed with GAD identified in the RMSSD and RRTri units.
