Poor air quality has been one of the frequent issues of the current discussion, especially the risks related to health, comfort, and well-being. In this paper, a systematic literature review (SLR) is presented to analyze, identify, and characterize the state of the art on use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring. To this end, a literature search was conducted in four digital libraries. A screening process was performed on 508 reviewed publications applying appropriate selection criteria to define the studies appropriate to the scope of RSL. Then, 34 selected studies were forwarded to the data extraction phase. After analyzing the selected studies, it was possible to analyze the benefits of using IoT in QAI, its applications, sensors, and interfaces used for information visualization. A significant increase in the number of articles published in recent years was identified, indicating a growing interest of the scientific community in this topic.
