base nas palavras-chave: (I) “Sleep and elderly”; (II) “Elderly athlete”; (III) “Performance and sleep and aged”; (IV)
“Performance and elderly and athlete.”.
There is a growing interest in research concerning the elderly population in the sports context, highlighting the importance of sleep for the health and athletic performance of this age group. It explores physiological and psychological mechanisms and intervention strategies for improved quality of life. Objective: To analyze the impacts of sleep on the performance of this population, employing statistical analyses and high-value literary content. Methods: Through an integrative review, a search was conducted based on predefined keywords: (I) "Sleep and elderly"; (II) "Elderly athlete"; (III) "Performance and sleep and aged"; (IV) "Performance and elderly and athlete." Out of 9,909 citations found, seven articles were selected through inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results and Discussion: The selected articles delve into the cognitive performance of healthy older individuals in sports through specific tests, indicating a preference for this research approach. The analysis focuses on the interrelation between cognition, elderly health, and sports performance. Conclusion: Studies on healthy older individuals suggest that aging affects cognitive-motor performance, but a good night's sleep can improve cognition and maintain performance. Despite some disagreements, the articles underscore the importance of sleep for quality of life and suggest the need for further studies.
