The irrefutable social patterns related to the body highlighted by the community of a relevant weight for both adolescents and adults. Not only characteristics of this generation, but revealing to be problems that have been going through human history and transforming themselves over the centuries, social standards have affected different ethnic groups since antiquity, through the search for a physical pattern reputed as ideal as a result of a socially constructed image. In this sense, eating disorders are a central point of this discussion. Characterized as disorders caused by excessive fear of overweight, disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, obesity and binge eating are pathologies that are correlated with anxiety and depression, so that they are increasingly present in the daily lives of the world's population. Thus, psychotropic drugs are used in the treatment of these dysfunctions, but are also associated with misuse of medications in gaining or losing body weight. Therefore, the objective of this work is to provide a theoretical discussion about important factors that can cause eating disorders. This literary review also aims to highlight the importance of the pharmaceutical with the multidisciplinary team of the health body to clarify the mechanisms of action of drugs used clinically to treat these pathologies, in order to cautiously intensify the intervention on the consequences of their misuse.
