Introduction: The dentist plays a crucial role in oral health, including identifying and managing potentially malignant lesions in the oral cavity, such as leukoplakia, erythroplakia, lichen planus, and actinic cheilitis. This TCC highlights the importance of training newly graduated dental surgeons in Rio Grande do Norte for early diagnoses and effective interventions. Understanding the clinical, histological and epidemiological characteristics of these lesions is essential. The work aims to provide a comprehensive guide to improving the quality of dental care in the region and contributing to the overall health of patients. Objective: he objective of this work is to compile and organize information from previous studies, developing a step-by-step guide for the diagnosis and management of patients with potentially malignant lesions, aimed at non-experienced dental surgeons. Objective: Texto do objetivo em inglês. Methodology: A literature review study was conducted in which phrases and words were selected and searched in databases such as EBSCOhost, PubMed and Google Scholar. These surveys were carried out between May and December 2023.Results: The results of this work reflect the compilation of information from several studies, which allowed the creation of a comprehensive management parameter for newly graduated dental surgeons. This parameter guides the diagnosis of potentially malignant lesions, the assessment of risk of transformation and the appropriate referral of patients to oncology reference centers, thus improving the quality of clinical dental practice in Rio Grande do Norte and contributing to the prevention and effective treatment of oral cancer in the region. Conclusions: The dentist plays an essential role in the early diagnosis and treatment of potentially malignant lesions, contributing significantly to improving patients' quality of life. This study contributed to the proactive action of these professionals, highlighting their responsibility and helping them in early detection and implementation of appropriate conduct.
