This study has the general objective of developing an action plan to avoid the main cause of stoppages in bale tying machines in a pulp mill. Determining the failures that most threaten a company's maintenance performance and assets is not an easy task. It is proposed to study cases of failures in baling tying machines, in a pulp company, in the city of Guaíba. The study consists of collecting information on the history of occurrences in the machines, polishing them and using the Jack-Knife tool to find critical failures. The occurrence histories show that there are on average 3 failures per month in the equipment. The study makes a separation between chronic failures and critical failures, focusing only on criticism. With the diagram, only one critical failure in the tying machines was located, where it is responsible for almost half of the tying machine downtime. To reduce the downtime of tying machines, an action plan was proposed to have a longer work campaign. Because it is a medium-long-term study, there are still no effective results if the average number of stops was reduced.
