Bacterial infection has a high death rate within hospitals, especially in ICUs. By carrying out blood cultures, bacteremia is detected, and early diagnosis is extremely important for starting drug administration correctly and safely. The objective of this work was to identify the resistance profile of positive blood cultures in the ICU of the Regional Hospital of São Jerônimo in the state of Rio Grande Do Sul and to point out the species of clinical interest involved in the resistance of positive blood cultures, through data provided by the Laboratory of Analysis Clinics of the institution, from January 2022 to December 2022. With a total of 97 positive samples, 58% were considered contamination, it was also possible to account for a prevalence of Gram positive bacteria, mainly of the genus Sthaphylococcus, with a high number of Oxacillin resistance. Regarding Gram negative bacteria, the prevalent species was Escherichia coli, showing resistance to different antibiotics, predominantly resistance to Ampicillin.
