OBJECTIVE: To integratively review the effects of hydrotherapy on pain, functionality and quality of life in patients with knee osteoarthritis in the literature. METHODS: Studies published between 2013 and 2023, through randomized clinical trials in English, Portuguese or Spanish, were included. The virtual bibliographic search in scientific articles was carried out in the PubMed, PEDro, BVS and Scielo databases. RESULTS: Four articles were selected for the present work, the total sample of this study was 422 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis who underwent intervention in hydrotherapy, which had aerobic activities and physical exercises in aquatic environments, resistance training and guidance to the patients. CONCLUSION: The practice of resistance and aerobic exercises and guidance on the pathology in conjunction with therapy in warm water generated greater benefits for functional capacity, decreased pain and walking speed in individuals with Knee Osteoarthritis. Therefore, it is suggested that more comprehensive studies be carried out on the subject, focusing on hydrotherapy, directed specifically at knee osteoarthritis, in order to expand knowledge and understanding on the subject.
