Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a disease characterized by persistent and progressive airflow obstruction, usually causing dyspnea and CO2 retention. The use of the high-flow system is recent in patients with COPD, it is a system that improves oxygenation through mechanisms such as reduction of anatomical dead space, pressurization of the airways (VA) with a degree of pressure, reduction of Oxygen dilution (O2) and increased circulatory volume. Objective: To verify the impact of using the high-flow nasal cannula system in patients with COPD, with an emphasis on outcomes: Dyspnea, pulmonary function, and exercise capacity Methodology: The study consisted of an integrative literature review that included research published in the last five years, in English and Spanish. The databases used were: Lilacs/BV, Pubmed and Scielo. The selection covered ten articles, however, only four fit the criteria established for this research. Results: The results showed that there was improvement in dyspnea and improvement in lung function; increase in exercise capacity and peripheral oxygen saturation. Conclusion: It is concluded that Such favorable outcomes suggest that HFNC can be used as an effective support tool in the treatment of COPD exacerbation.
