Resumo
A Leucemia Infecciosa Viral Felina é uma doença retroviral que afeta gatos domésticos em todo o mundo, com prevalência variando de 4,5% a 22,26% em diferentes estados brasileiros. Considerada uma das principais causas de manifestações clínicas e mortalidade em gatos, a FeLV compartilha semelhanças no mecanismo de replicação com o HIV humano, o que sugere a potencial eficácia de medicamentos antirretrovirais, como o AZT, Raltegravir e Tenofovir no tratamento de gatos infectados, embora ainda existam desafios a serem superados na medicina veterinária, principalmente o acesso e o alto custo dessas medicações.
Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a retroviral disease that affects domestic cats worldwide, with prevalence ranging from 4.5% to 22.26% in different Brazilian states. Considered one of the main causes of clinical manifestations and mortality in cats, FeLV shares similarities in replication mechanism with human HIV, suggesting the potential effectiveness of antiretroviral drugs such as AZT, Raltegravir, and Tenofovir in treating infected cats, although there are still challenges to be overcome in veterinary medicine, specially the access and the high cost of these medications.
