Objective: To systematically review the benefits of animal-assisted therapy in patients with autism spectrum transport (ASD) in the literature. Methods: The PUBMED, Cochrane, BVS and SCIELO electronic databases were searched from 2012 to 2022. For the selection of keywords in PUBMED and Cochrane, indexed Mesh - Medical Subject Heading descriptors were used, and for research in the other DeCS - Health Descriptors were used on the bases. Results: A total of 106 studies were found by searching the databases, 14 in PubMed, 19 in Cochrane and 73 in the Virtual Health Library (VHL). Of these 74 were excluded by title and abstract, leaving 32 studies. After that, 11 were excluded because they were duplicates and 14 were excluded because they were not available in full, leaving 5 studies for complete reading and 2 studies of bibliographic references, of which 02 did not meet the inclusion criteria. In this way, 05 works were included. Conclusion: This literature review concludes that pet therapy improves quality of life related to family life, increased affectivity, improved interaction with other people, development of children's psychomotor skills, evolution in verbal language and decreased aggressiveness. In addition, the pet improves in some specific aspects of socio-emotional development and loss of fear of animals.
