Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the name given to lung disease that is characterized by the airways, making effort difficult. The common signs and symptoms of the disease are dyspnea, chronic cough and tiredness. It is disabling, causes many physical disorders and directly impacts quality of life. For this reason, music therapy as a complementary therapy to standard rehabilitation can contribute to minimizing the signs and symptoms of the disease. Objective: To verify the effectiveness of music therapy as a complementary strategy compared to standard pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Methodology: The research consisted of an integrative literature review that included research published in the last ten years, in English and French. The electronic databases used were: Pubmed, Lilacs/BV, Medline/BVS, PEDro and SciELO. The selection covered ten articles, however, only six fit the eligibility criteria for the present study. Results: The results showed significant effects in improving the well-being of patients with COPD who participated in group music therapy sessions. Conclusion: It was possible to verify that music therapy as a complementary strategy compared to standard pulmonary rehabilitation, brought significant effects in improving quality of life, performance and physical capacity, balance, as well as in reducing depression and dyspnea with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), however, the literature needs more robust demonstrations in order to establish more reliable results.
