Abstract Background: Acne is a multifactorial inflammatory disease that has been shown to increase in occurrence in adult women over 25 years of age. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of adult female acne in medical students from a private educational institution in the State of Santa Catarina, as well as habits, environmental factors involved in the pathology and the psychological impact. Methods: An observational cross-sectional study conducted with medical students from a private educational institution in the city of Tubarão - SC, who answered 26 questions related to adult acne in women after agreeing with an informed consent form. The results were analyzed and tabulated in the form of absolute and percentage frequency, statistically analyzed in central measures, dispersion and chi-square test. Results: 81 academics fit the research inclusion parameters, with 90.1% of white ethnicity, 85.2% single and 79% aged between 25 and 30 years. 63% of the participants claimed to have acne today, 67.9% had acne in adolescence and 25.9% reported a family history of acne. Of the total number of academics in the study, 65.4% reported satisfaction with their own appearance, however 22.2% reported anxiety and/or introversion in relationships, 17.3% reported anxiety and/or introversion in professional life, and 66.7% manipulated acne lesions.
