Gastrointestinal stasis is a highly prevalent condition in rabbits. The etiology is complex and has multifactorial causes, such as: anorexia, dehydration, pain processes, stress, inadequate diets, and others. In severe cases, it can progress to partial or total obstruction due to the accumulation of ingesta and hair in the digestive tract. A male New Zealand rabbit, 2 years and 6 months old, was admitted in emergency under the complaint of anorexia and without defecating. During the physical examination, a bulging abdomen, a full stomach, discomfort on palpation, tympanic sound on percussion and reduced peristalsis on auscultation were observed. The diagnosis of gastrointestinal stasis was confirmed through radiography and simple abdominal ultrasonography. Drug treatment was instituted, however, no improvement was observed in the patient’s clinical condition, requiring surgical intervention. This patient was submitted to exploratory laparotomy procedure, finding partial pyloric obstruction. A gastrotomy was performed to resolve the case.
