Artigo Científico Acesso fechado Associação entre o escore de alvarado, achados cirúrgicos e aspecto histopatológico da apendicite aguda(2017) Alexandre, Vanessa BaschirottoObjective: Compare the results of the Alvarado score with surgical findings and histopathological findings in acute appendicitis (AA). Methods: The sample was composed of 101 patients aged 14 years and older undergoing appendectomy. The applied interview continued the Alvarado score, the score value, sex, age, ethnicity of the patients and time of evolution. The surgical aspect of the appendix was obtained, regarding the postoperative complications and the result of histopathological examination. The pre-established confidence interval was 95%. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value of the score were calculated, and an analysis was performed through the ROC curve. Results: The association between the Alvarado score and the diagnostic confirmation, using a cutoff point greater than or equal to six, was found to be statistically significant (P 0.002), with sensitivity of 72% and specificity of 87,5%. A greater score of six showed a greater tendency to present more advanced phases of AA in both surgical and histopathological aspects, compared to a score lower than six. The male sex presents higher chances of complications when compared to the female sex (P 0.003). Conclusion: The Alvarado score represents a good method for diagnostic screening in AA, since scores greater than or equal to six are associated with a greater probability of diagnostic confirmation to histopathological. Since the Alvarado score is a simple, easy-to-apply and accessible method that can help reduce the time of evolution and postoperative complications. Key words: Appendicitis. Appendectomy. Diagnosis.
