Bariatric surgery appears as a possibility to obtain higher rates of remission of T2D through surgical treatment. OBJECTIVES: This study sought to describe the alteration of the glycemic and lipid profile of patients diagnosed with T2D and obesity, who underwent bariatric surgery of RYGB and SG, being evaluated in the pre-surgical period and one year after surgery. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study, evaluating patients with a diagnosis of TD2, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) ≥ 30kg/m2, who were followed up for one year. The primary outcome was remission of T2D through glycated hemoglobin (A1c) ≤6.0% without the use of medications, analyzed through changes in fasting glucose (FG) and A1c, lipid profile, percentage excess weight loss (%EWL), hypoglycemia, quantity of drugs in use, blood pressure and time since diagnosis of T2D. RESULTS: The sample consisted of 80 patients, 67.5% of whom were female, and the most performed surgery was RYGB in 85%. The average reduction in BMI was 5.3 kg/m2 and the %EWL was 87.9%. GJ decreased an average of 53.5 mg/dl and A1c by 1.7%. The 65% of the sample obtained complete remission. Total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglycerides (TG) altered to improve the sample's lipid profile. Blood pressure also showed significant decreases. CONCLUSION: The RYGB and SG surgeries demonstrated benefits in altering the metabolic profile, over a period of one year. These results may suggest better control of DM2, demonstrating benefits to obese and diabetic patients, when evaluated in a short period of up to one year.
